Second strike target missed

BarnsleyBarnsley have missed out on the signing of Freddy Eastwood after Coventry agreed an undisclosed fee with Wolves for the striker.

Tykes boss Simon Davey is on the look-out for a new striker and was hoping to turn to Eastwood after missing out on Kevin Phillips, who has joined Birmingham.

Now he also looks to have missed out on Eastwood, who is set to stay in the Midlands with Coventry.

Coventry chairman Ray Ranson told the official club website: "As people will know, Freddy has been a long-term target for us and we are delighted to concluded everything. He fits the bill in terms of being a quality player at the right age and will be the fourth signing we have made.

"We told our supporters that we would be strengthening the squad, and hopefully this is further evidence that we are doing just that. Season tickets have been going well and hopefully this will give supporters faith that we are set for an exciting season.

"Freddy fits the bill in terms of age and ability, and we believe he will be a very exciting addition to the squad."
