Barnsley are battling it out with Championship rivals Preston for the signing of Burnley's Robbie Blake.

The Clarets forward was due to sign for Preston but Barnsley have nipped in with a bid for the player.

North End were planning to take the player on-loan for the rest of the season and then sign him on a free transfer in the summer.

However Barnsley boss Mark Robins has money to spend and the Clarets are more likely to accept a permanent cash bid rather than a loan deal.
