Tykes enter striker race

BarnsleyBarnsley boss Simon Davey has now turned his attentions to Wolves' Freddy Eastwood having missed out on West Brom's Kevin Phillips.

The former Southend hitman is surplus to requirements at Molineux and has been put on the transfer list by Mick McCarthy, with Coventry said to be very close to landing him.

But now Barnsley have thrown their hat into the ring for the Wales international hitman who would cost around £1.5m.

Assistant manager Ryan Kidd told the Sheffield Star: "It's well known that he's a player Coventry have been after for four or five months.

"Some players are hard to get. He's not a target we've seriously been after, but he's one we may consider.

"We're not panicking. Kevin Phillips was a target we had right from the end of last season but we're happy with what we've got in our squad already."
