Tykes wait on defender move

Barnsley have told Rob Atkinson that he will complete a full pre-season at the club before they decide on a possible loan move.

Assistant boss Ryan Kidd has said the 21-year-old has a big season ahead of him and although he had been wanted by Grimsby, Kidd says they will not be in a rush to let him go just yet.

He told the Sheffield Star: "Rob has a big year in front of him, him, we will fully assess him to decide whether or not to send him out again.

"It will be easy enough to find him a club at that level if we want to."
