Capello's major dilemma

NewsEngland's midfield has caused headaches for Fabio Capello but Steve Gerrard's absence for two upcoming qualifiers will add to his woes.

The 28-year-old, who many felt was unfortunate to be overlooked as the new England captain, is being forced to undergo a groin operation and is set to miss both of England's Group 6 World Cup qualifiers, against Andorra on September 6 and then in Croatia on September 10.

Gerrard has been a mainstay in the England side and would have been a certain starter for both games, leaving Capello with some difficult selections decisions ahead, something which may tempt fans into using their £25 free bet on either of the two upcoming matches.

There had been mounting speculation that Frank Lampard was going to be the man to miss out in a lop-sided midfield, but the Chelsea man may have a reprieve due to Gerrard's absence, with Gareth Barry likely to retain his place.

Another option for the England coach is Manchester United's Owen Hargreaves, who is back to full fitness following a knee problem but his lack of match action is a concern.
