Moyes on a high after Marouane buy

NewsDavid Moyes could make further signings in January after smashing Everton's transfer record again to sign Marouane Fellaini.

The canny Scot was delighted after Everton agreed a club record £15m deal - beating Spurs and Aston Villa to the Belgium international.

And Moyes now hopes his midfield acquisition can kickstart the Blues season as he looks to build a team capable of challenging for a top four Premiership finish.

"Once we get some other boys back like Tim Cahill and Steven Pienaar we will be in better shape and I hope, if I have to, there is room to do some business again in January," he said.

Toffees fans who were disillusioned with the lack of transfer activity up to last night's deadline are now taking advantage of their £25 free bet to back Moyes' boys to be the Premiership Winner without the Big Four of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd.

The Goodison Park boss admitted it was tough to prise the 20-year-old away from Standard Liege, but Toffees officials smashed the previous transfer record set when Yakubu joined for £11.25m last summer.

"It has taken some long, hard negotiations to get him," said Moyes

"Standard had made it clear that under no circumstances did they want to sell him.

"It was a long day but it all proved worthwhile. Our interest hasn't only just materialised, we have been chasing him for two years and keenly watched his development.

"Recent games have shown what he is all about and the hard part has been getting him here. We initially made contact with Standard two weeks ago but then we drew them in the UEFA Cup and that really complicated things."
