Rio reaction in spotlight

NewsJohn Terry will lead England out at Wembley tonight for the first time since being handed the permanent captaincy by Fabio Capello.

The Chelsea centre-back was chosen by England's Italian tactician to 'drive the team' and, given Terry's determination whenever he takes to the field, many would not back a defeat in his first match with the armband.

The game will be Capello's fifth friendly in charge as he looks to put the finishing pieces of the jigsaw in place before the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign begins in earnest next month with back-to-back away qualifiers against Andorra and Croatia.

Fans looking to back England with their free £25 bet in this tough test, will be happy that so far under Capello, England have won three of his four games at the helm - with the sole defeat coming against France back in March.

The Czechs are currently six places above the Three Lions in the world rankings in eighth and will be led by coach Petr Rada for the first time after he succeeded Karel Bruckner as national head coach.

The visitors will certainly be keen to impress the former assistant and demonstrate to him that their disappointing showing at Euro2008 was a blip, while Capello himself knows a win against the usually impressive Czechs would be the perfect tonic heading into September's qualifiers.

Goalkeepers Joe Hart, Paul Robinson, and David James are all vying for a place with the latter likely to start while it will also be interesting to see how Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand reacts to missing out on the armband to his centre-back partner Terry.

Chelsea team-mates Ashley Cole and Wayne Bridge are likely to get 45 minutes each while it will be intriguing to see if Capello opts for a four or five-man midfield. It looks as though Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Joe Cole will all begin the game with Gareth Barry, David Beckham, David Bentley and Stewart Downing all hoping to get starts.

Despite Capello insisting Peter Crouch is still in his thoughts, it looks as though surprise selection Emile Heskey will get the chance to get on the scoresheet and impress, alongside Jermaine Defoe with Wayne Rooney and Theo Walcott also available.

For the visitors, former Aston Villa, Liverpool and Portsmouth striker Milan Baros should start up front with Michal Papadopoulos, while Petr Cech will look to keep a clean sheet in a game he describes as a 'boyhood dream being realised'.
