Scharner makes stunning prediction

NewsPaul Scharner says he firmly believes Wigan have the ability to take at least a point from Chelsea at the JJB Stadium this weekend.

Despite the Latics looking a little weak at the back during the opening day 2-1 defeat at West Ham, the Austrian centre back feels they will really start to show what they can do when taking on Luiz Felipe Scolari's impressive squad this weekend.

Scharner is certainly not running scared of the Blues despite their impressive 4-0 hammering of Portsmouth on Sunday, and feels Wigan have enough quality to gain at least a point from the match.

Fans looking to follow Scharner's advice and use their free £25 bet on backing the Latics, will also be buoyed by the most recent meeting between the two sides - a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge in April.

Scharner told the Evening Post: "This was always a game which people would look forward to and it should be a good game.

"We got a point the last time we played Chelsea and I'm looking forward to playing against them again - who knows we might get all three this time.

"Why can't we get something from the game?

"The gaffer has put together a strong squad and I think it should be possible for us to finish in the top half of the table this season."
