Birmingham will not be making a move for Chilean striker Humberto Suazo but AZ Almaar's Moussa Dembele is a target.
Reports in the press had claimed that the Blues were ready to offer £10million for Suazo but such talk is wide of the mark and boss Alex McLeish is focused on other targets with Dembele still high on his wanted list.
The Scot is hoping to add to the signings of Ben Foster and Nikola Zigic when he returns from the Far East and has also revealed that he wants to draft in a couple of players on loan from rival Premier League clubs.
"We spoke about one or two players and things are moving on," McLeish told the Birmingham Mail. "The goalkeeper was a given. We needed a goalkeeper of Ben Foster's stature because what was going to happen with Joe Hart.
"So, the way I'm looking at it, is that I've only spent on Nikola Zigic. We can exploit the loan situations as well. We can take international loans, Premier League loans.
"Most agents and clubs are trying to do permanent business, such is the need for money in some clubs. But we're open to getting a couple of Premier League loans. We're exploring all avenues.
"We've been linked with a few names in the papers. Some a load of rubbish, some an element of truth in it."
