Birmingham have been linked with former Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko as they aim to boost the squad with five new players.
The Blues' new owner Carson Yeung looks set to hand boss Alex McLeish a £20million January war chest to bolster the squad and ensure their time in the Premier League is not another one-season wonder. And reports suggest the Hong Kong tycoon is looking to try and tempt 33-year-old former Chelsea and AC Milan striker Shevchenko back to the Premier League.
The Ukraine international only signed a two-year deal with his former club Dynamo Kiev in August after a disappointing spell at Stamford Bridge. However that does not look like it has put off Yeng from testing the water over a deal as the Blues are looking to sign two new strikers in the New Year window.
Yeung's right-hand man Sammy Yu is working with McLeish to finalise a short-list of transfer targets as they also look to sign two new central midfielders and a left-back.
