Birmingham have pulled the plug on a move to sign Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko and Fiorentina are now keen.

Birmingham are reported to have failed with a £10million swoop for the Russian striker and the Blues boss Alex McLeish has revealed they will not be going back with an improved bid.

Italian outfit Fiorentina are now said to be keen on the player and Birmingham will be looking elsewhere.

"I think we are going to leave that one now," McLeish revealed.

The Blues boss is still on the look out for a new striker before Monday's deadline after he also missed out on a move for Aruna Dindane.

"We couldn't agree with Lens, so that's one that's off the radar as well," he added. "I'm trying to help up front and I think we could do with another body up front.

"I have to think seriously over the next 48 hours whether we break the bank or we get somebody in who can help out until the end of the season, possibly a loan."
