Blues set to sign Phillips

BirminghamBirmingham look set to complete the signing of West Brom striker Kevin Phillips on a two-year deal.

Baggies boss Tony Mowbray had been hoping to keep the former England international at the club and made late efforts to persuade him to sign a one-year deal at The Hawthorns last week, with the prospect of a further year depending on appearances.

Last season's top scorer will be 35 years old in a few weeks' time and has instead opted to sign a two-year deal on offer from neighbours Birmingham.

Phillips is expected to have a medical this week with a view to signing a deal, which means he will become the third out-of-contract player to quit Albion after Zoltan Gera joined Fulham and Martin Albrechtsen left for Derby County.
