Birmingham are stepping up their interest in AZ Alkmaar striker Moussa Dembele with a view to a £5m swoop.

Blues boss Alex McLeish has confirmed another striker is on his wanted list and after ruling out a move for Chilean striker Humberto Suazo, meaning Dembele is now his top target.

The 23-year-old has just less than 12 months left to run on his contract and McLeish hopes to land him for a bargain fee, although there is a danger of the player opting to let his contract run down before leaving on a free next summer.

There is no shortage of interest in the Belgium international either with Olympiakos and Fiorentina also keen and McLeish faces a battle to land the player.

McLeish is looking to kill two birds with one stone as Dembele can also play on the wing, a position the Scot is also looking to strengthen.
