Birmingham boss Alex McLeish is waiting to learn the extent of Christian Benitez's ankle injury but says it does not look too serious.

Benitez picked up the injury in the second half of the 2-1 win over local rivals Wolves on Sunday and had to be replaced amid concerns he had suffered serious damage.

However, McLeish has revealed the injury does not look as bad as was first feared but the Ecuador ace will be sent for a scan to check the ankle.

Allaying fears over the injury, McLeish said: "He went over on his ankle.

"We'll need to wait 24 hours, as is the normal procedure, to get it scanned but we're hopeful he won't be missing for too long."
