Boss plans second Dutch swoop

BirminghamWigan boss Steve Bruce is being linked with another move to sign Dutch winger Daniel De Ridder - who he took to Birmingham last summer.

The former Holland Under-21 international fell out of favour as soon as Bruce was succeeded by Alex McLeish at St Andrew's last season and is thought to be available.

Reports have claimed he could be allowed to go on a free transfer - but with the current strained relations between the clubs that seems unlikely.

De Ridder, 24, signed on a free transfer from Celta Vigo after playing well for Holland Under-21s in their victorious European Championship last summer.

De Ridder's last appearance for Birmingham City was on 5 January 2008, in the FA Cup defeat to Huddersfield Town, after which McLeish said he didn't feel City's style suited the Dutchman's game.
