Newcastle defender David Edgar is closing in on a move to Birmingham after deciding to leave St James' Park following relegation.

The Canadian-born full-back has taken his time to weigh up his options following the Magpies' dismal end to the season and has attracted attention from around the Premier League.

However, it is recently-promoted Birmingham who are leading the chase to sign him and the 22-year-old is expected to seal a free-transfer switch to St Andrews in the next couple of weeks.
