Alex McLeish has pleaded with the Birmingham fans to be patient after he failed to bolster the club's forward line before the deadline.
The Blues boss had wanted to strengthen his attacking options but failed in efforts to sign Lens' Aruna Dindane and Tottenham's Roman Pavlyuchenko ahead of Monday's 5pm cut-off point.
However McLeish has told disappointed fans that he is determined to only bring in forwards who he feels will add something to his current squad at St Andrews in the same way he successfully bolstered the defence last summer. Therefore he is happy to go with what he has got until the end of the season in attack and look at the situation again in the summer.
"As with our search for centre-halves when I came to the club, it is a little bit similar in terms of a striker," he told the Birmingham Mail.
"It took a long time to get the defenders we felt would be right despite what seemed like a million names put into us. It was important to be sure.
"It's a little bit like that in this window and although we did try to get one or two in, it wasn't possible.
"Of course I'm disappointed, and I would have liked a striker to help the players, I think everybody was aware of that.
"The targets we went for, we weren't able to get them done and we had to be mindful of taking that too big a step that would have hurt the club financially down the line, and morally.
"Also, it would have been wrong to have tried to force something through just for the sake of doing it.
"I have got to ask our fans for their support and understanding here, and I am sure that they can see our reasoning.
"Our league position is healthy, we have signed two very good midfielders in Michel and Craig Gardner, and we've got to back these guys here who have performed so well this season to go forward and see us through to the end."
