Former Birmingham midfielder Lee Carsley has rejoined Championship side Coventry City - eight years after leaving them.

Carsley has been looking for a new club since being released by the Blues at the end of last season and has agreed a one-year contract with Sky Blues boss Aidy Boothroyd.

The 36-year-old joined Coventry from Blackburn in December 2000 before leaving to join Everton 14 months later and will team up with former Blues striker Gary McSheffrey again at the Ricoh Arena.

Boothroyd said: "He is a leader and knows what it takes to win on a regular basis.

"Any good team needs a balance of talent, experience, physical presence, pace and, obviously, footballing ability.

"I want Lee to be the glue that binds the team together because he has all of those."
