Birmingham midfielder Damien Johnson sealed a beat-the-deadline permanent transfer to Championship side Plymouth Argyle.

The 31-year-old has struggled for regular action at Birmingham this season and Pilgrims boss Paul Mariner snapped him up after agreeing an undisclosed fee with the Blues.

"I've been frustrated at Birmingham and I want to play," Johnson said. "I've come here and I want to give it 100%.

"I was made aware of Plymouth's interest over the weekend. I had a chat with the manager at Birmingham and he was ok with me coming down, and having a chat with Paul Mariner.

"We had a nice meeting on Sunday and he made me feel very welcome. It's a big challenge and the Championship is a tough league. It's a hard league and there is not much in it between the teams.

"The most important thing is to do well for Plymouth and that is my focus. I want to settle down here and help Plymouth climb up the Championship table."
