Birmingham are set to renegotiate the club-record fee for Christian Benitez after a problem with the striker's medical.

The 23-year-old Ecuador international was set to join for an initial £6.2m from Mexican side Santos Laguna with £3m due in various add-ons.

But reports claim an old knee injury has complicated matters and the transfer might now be renegotiated by Blues.

Benitez has been granted a work visa but has yet to ink the three-year deal agreed because of his medical.
