Blackburn have played down talk that a fresh approach has been made by Sunderland for striker Benni McCarthy.

Rovers have turned down at least one bid from the Black Cats for the South African but reports in the press claimed that Roy Keane was ready to offer £9million in order to get his man.

Manchester City have also failed with a bid to sign Roque Santa Cruz and club officials also insist no fresh offers have come in for the talented striker either.

"There has been no further contract from any club regarding Benni McCarthy or Roque Santa Cruz," Rovers chairman John Williams told BBC Radio Lancashire.
