Mark Hughes has returned to his former club Blackburn to add Eddie Niedzwiecki and Kevin Hitchcock to his backroom staff at Eastlands.

The former Chelsea players had both been heavily tipped to follow Hughes to City from Ewood Park following his appointment as Sven Goran Eriksson's successor last month.

Niedzwiecki, who coached at Chelsea and Arsenal before joining Blackburn in 2004, has been named as first-team coach while Hitchcock will take over as City's new goalkeeping coach.
