Blackburn boss Paul Ince hopes striker Roque Santa Cruz doesn't have to travel to South America after picking up a hamstring injury.

The Paraguayan international has been called up for his country's up-coming World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Peru in South America, but Ince hopes his crocked star is allowed to stay in Lancashire.

Santa Cruz had to leave the pitch early in the Rovers defeat to Manchester United on Saturday. Ince confirmed the front-man sustained a hamstring injury during the match, but admitted he was powerless to stop the Paraguayan FA from summoning Santa Cruz to South America.

Ince told Rovers' official website: "He's done his hamstring.

"We are hoping he doesn't have to travel to Paraguay. We will speak to their doctor.

"It's a stupid rule, he did the same against West Ham when he injured his achilles and he then had to jump on a plane for 14 hours so we are trying to prevent that, but you just don't know what is going to happen."
