Blackburn midfielder David Dunn is the latest player to be linked with a summer switch to Middlesbrough.

News of the World speculation is suggesting that Boro boss Gareth Southgate has switched his attentions to the 28-year-old one cap England international as he bids to bolster the midfield further at the Riverside.

Fabio Rochemback and George Boateng have already departed, while Lee Cattermole is on the verge of a £3.5million move to Wigan. And Southgate is aiming to use that money to bring in another midfield performer ahead of the new Premier League campaign on August 16.

It was thought that Reading's James Harper was the man Boro were looking to reinforce their midfield options, but this report suggests that Dunn could be the man.

Dunn started his career at Blackburn, before joining Birmingham in a £5.5million deal in summer 2003. However, following a number of hamstring problems which blighted his time at St Andrews, he was sold back to Rovers in a £2.2million transfer in January 2007.

He has since put his injuries behind him and played in over 30 Premier League games last term to help the Ewood Park outfit finish in seventh spot.

However following Mark Hughes' departure to Manchester City it is not known if new Rovers boss Paul Ince would be willing to offload Dunn.
