Henk ten Cate has reportedly delayed signing a contract with Panathinaikos in the hope of being named new Blackburn manager.
Ten Cate, who was sacked as Chelsea's assistant boss last month following Avram Grant's departure at Stamford Bridge, has verbally agreed a two-year contract with the Greek side and was due to put pen to paper early this week.
But the Dutchman has so far failed to do so and reports suggest he is still hoping to speak to Blackburn chairman John Williams about the vacant manager's post at Ewood Park.
Ten Cate was on the shortlist drawn up by the Rovers board last week and Williams' visit to Europe yesterday has strengthened his claims on the job.
But Ten Cate is understood to be involved in a pay-off dispute with Chelsea and the west London club's insistence that he cannot work immediately in England as part of his severance terms may prejudice his chances of getting the job.
Rovers hope to name Mark Hughes' replacement before the end of the week, with ex-England chief Steve McClaren, former Bolton and Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce, MK Dons manager Paul Ince, Dick Advocaat and Henning Berg all being linked to the role.
