Roque Santa Cruz has picked up a hamstring injury and Blackburn are now battling to stop him going on international duty.

The Paraguay star picked up the injury just after half-time as Rovers lost 2-0 to Manchester United on Saturday and Rovers are still waiting to find out the full extent of the injury.

In the meantime, Paraguay are keen for the player to link up with them for their World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Peru, something Paul Ince obviously wants to avoid.

"He's done his hamstring," the Rovers boss told the official website. "We are hoping he doesn't have to travel to Paraguay. We will speak to their doctor.

"It's a stupid rule, he did the same against West Ham when he injured his Achilles and he then had to jump on a plane for 14 hours so we are trying to prevent that, but you just don't know what is going to happen."
