Blackburn have missed out on the signings of Benjani and Aruna Dindane as Sam Allardyce tried to sign a new striker.

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce was keen to draft in a new striker after losing Benni McCarthy to West Ham and he was hoping to do a deal before the 5pm deadline.

Talks with Manchester City striker Benjani are believed to have broken down on Sunday night and Allardyce quickly turned his attention to Lens striker Dindane who is on loan at Portsmouth.

The striker underwent a medical at Ewood Park but Allardyce ran out of time and Dindane will now spend the rest of the season at Fratton Park.
