Striker pledges Rovers future

BlackburnJason Roberts says he wants to commit his future to Blackburn by signing a contract extension at Ewood Park.

The Rovers striker wanted out of the club last January after handing in a transfer request but it was turned down by former boss Mark Hughes and Roberts ended up staying.

Since then Roberts has impressed and has managed to force his way into the Rovers first-team on a regular basis. The former Wigan now sees his future with Blackburn and is hoping to pen a new deal sooner rather than later.

"We have been having conversations and hopefully something will be concluded sooner rather than later," Roberts revealed. "From my point of view, I am happy at the club, we have a great bunch of lads and looking forward to an exciting season.

"My contract does not run out until 2010 but I see no reason to leave and so would love to sort something out for longer. Early talks went well and we will be meeting again soon to get all the details sorted hopefully."
