Bolton in for Goian

BoltonBolton may be about to sign defender Dorin Goian from Romanian giants Steaua Bucharest in a deal worth around £4million.

The Romanian centre back who starred for his country with impressive displays against France and Italy had been expected to sign for Sunderland, however a fee could not be agreed and The Black Cats have now ended their interest.

This will alert the likes of Bolton, Man City, Newcastle and a host of German clubs, who are reported to be battling it out for the massive defender.

Goian stands an impressive 6' 5" and is well known for his aerial ability, which would suit the Wanderers' playing style perfectly.

Bolton are on the look out for a centre back after Ivory Coast international Abdoulaye Meite was told he has no future at the Reebok, and with Meite gone that would leave just Gary Cahill and Andy O'Brien in the middle of defence, with no cover should either get injured.

Goian's appearances for his country have earned him respect, particularly against France and Italy in this summer's European Championships, where he kept the likes of Luca Toni and Nicolas Anelka at bay.
