Bolton are being linked with a £4million January swoop for Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll.

Reports claim that Gary Megson sees the 20-year-old as a long-term replacement for Wanderers skipper Kevin Davies and is keen to do a deal if the Magpies are willing to sell.

Megson has already been linked with a bid to re-sign Kevin Nolan from Newcastle while Alan Smith has also been suggested as a transfer window target.

Carroll has been a regular in the side when fully fit and Newcastle are likely to rebuff any approach for the striker as they push for a return to the Premiership.
