Bolton will have to bid £5million for Ferrie Bodde if they want to strike a deal after Swansea rejected their £2.5million offer.
After much speculation over his interest in the player, Wanderers boss Gary Megson finally made an offer for the Dutchman but Swansea rejected it immediately.
The Swans are keen to keep hold of the highly-rated playmaker, who has only just recovered from a serious knee injury, and Megson will have to significantly improve his offer if a deal is to happen.
"We received a written offer from Bolton on Thursday," Swans chairman Huw Jenkins revealed. "The offer was worth around £2.5m. We believe Ferrie is worth a lot more than that and as a result we officially turned the offer down today.
"In fact, we do not want to sell any of our players."
Megson now has to decide if the player is worth any more than £2.5million as he ponders his next move.
