Bolton boss Gary Megson is reportedly lining up a £7m raid for Celtic midfielder Scott Brown as a replacement for Sean Davis.

Megson is said to be eyeing a move for the Scotland international in January's transfer window after Davis was ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

The Trotters manager is said to be a big admirer of Brown, 24, but will face competition from Tottenham, Everton and Stoke for his signature.

Speaking about the the transfer window, Megson said: "It's going to be a really important window for us because we need to keep the momentum going.

"Since I arrived at the club there has been a huge of amount of players leaving and we're still trying to replace them.

"There was a huge amount that needed changing but we didn't have the finance to do it quickly.

"We hope to make some good signings in January to push the club forward and help it progress."
