Bolton boss Gary Megson wants Ricardo Gardner to quit international football but admits he could be on to a loser.

The 32-year-old Jamaica star has failed to make an appearance for the Trotters so far this season because of a hamstring problem although he could face Stoke on Saturday at the Reebok.

Ideally, Megson wants to veteran 109-cap midfielder to retire from football at the highest level but he knows Gardner will probably have other ideas.

He told the MEN: "He's is a good lad, trains properly and will hopefully take that on board. But whether it suits Bibi traipsing off to play for Jamaica all the time at the age he is now, I'm not sure.

"I will have a word with him on that score. But that might be a bit difficult because he is a very proud Jamaican."

Jamaica have failed to qualify for next summer's World Cup finals in South Africa.
