Meite Future still uncertain

BoltonDefender Abdoulaye Meite, who has been told he has no future with Bolton, remains in limbo as no suitable offers have been made.

The want-away stopper is at home in France as the rest of his teammates prepare for the new Premiership season in Austria.

It is understood that Bolton have already turned down two unacceptable bids for Meite, thought to be from Hull and West Brom.

The defender fell out of favour at the Reebok after apparently refusing to play against Manchester United at Old Trafford towards the end of last season.

Manager Gary Megson is holding out for £3million, which is way above the £1million thought to have been offered by both West Brom and Hull.

Former Bolton assistant Phil Brown, now manager of Hull, claimed earlier this month to have been priced out of a move for Meite. It is thought though that Brown will launch an improved bid for the player after failing in his attempt to take Portsmouth's Djimi Traore to the Tigers.

West Brom boss Tony Mowbray has denied reports linking him with the centre back, saying: "There's nothing happening there. If comments have come out of Bolton then that's disappointing but it's just speculation and no more."

Both Meite and Bolton will be keen to resolve the situation before the start of the new season, with it looking unlikely that Meite will play under Megson again, but he may be forced to join up with the squad if a suitable buyer cannot be found.
