Sporting Gijon midfielder Michel says he received a good offer from Bolton but opted to stay in Spain.

Wanderers boss Gary Megson made a move for the 22-year-old just before the transfer window closed but failed to lure the highly-rated young star to the Reebok Stadium.

Reports claim that Sporting rejected Bolton's £2.9million bid but now the player's comment would suggest the Trotters got as far as offering him a contract.

"The offer from Bolton was very good but I preferred to stay here," said Michel. "I am very happy here and now it's my turn to pay back the club for the confidence they have in me."
