Bolton have been rocked by the news Gary Cahill has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a blood clot in his arm.

Cahill was a late withdrawal from the side that drew 0-0 with Fulham on Saturday but early reports suggested the central defender was struggling with a shoulder injury.

However it has now emerged that Cahill has a blood clot in his arm and he will play no further part in Bolton's battle to beat the drop.

The news will come as a huge blow to Bolton's survival chances and with the transfer window now closed Wanderers boss Owen Coyle will have to go with what he has got.

Andy O'Brien stepped in against the Cottagers on Saturday but he also picked up a calf injury and is doubtful for the trip to Manchester City on Tuesday night.
