Gavin McCann and Dan Shittu are in advanced talks with Portsmouth but David Nugent will not be heading to Bolton as part of the deal.

Wanderers boss Gary Megson is looking to cash in on the duo to raise funds for a new striker and there have been suggestions that Nugent, who is looking to return north, could be included in the deal.

Bolton officials have dismissed such talk but Megson has confessed that Shittu and McCann are currently talking to Pompey in the hope of pushing through a double deal.

"We're trying to move the squad forward and get it stronger," the Wanderers manager said. "We have got 21 outfield players and it is about trying to make that number stronger.

"Portsmouth will be looking to do that as well, so whether anything happens with Danny and Gav we will have to see."
