Bolton are again being linked with Sheffield United's Matt Kilgallon and could be ready to offer £1million in January.

Trotters boss Gary Megson has been disappointed with the form of summer signing Zat Knight this season and has been forced to bring Andy O'Brien back into the side in attempt to plug his leaky defence.

Megson is now looking for a new central defender and is reported to be targeting a move for Kilgallon who looks certain to leave the Blades when the window opens.

There are no signs of Kilgallon signing a new deal with United and they are keen to cash in before he becomes available on a free transfer next summer.

Bolton could face a battle for his signature though as Wigan and Newcastle are also chasing the player.
