Trotters work on £8m La Liga swoop

Bolton have failed with an £8million bid for Atletico Madrid midfielder Maniche but are still hoping to wrap up a deal.

Trotters boss Gary Megson has confirmed he is hoping to make one more signing before the transfer window closes at midnight and reports suggest the former Chelsea midfielder is his target.

Maniche is due to fall out of contract next summer and Wanderers are hoping they can persuade the La Liga side to cash in before the deadline passes.

Wanderers are working hard to beat the clock and are hoping for some success after also failing in attempts to land Fulham's Jimmy Bullard and Reading's James Harper.
