Bradford reached the Johnstone's Paint Trophy third round 3-2 on penalties after a goalless draw at Hartlepool.

The League Two side progressed when goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin blocked Evan Horwood's fifth and decisive spot-kick, and the ball cannoned off the bar and bounced on the goal-line to safety.

Pools loan signing Charlie Wyke was denied in the first half by the fingertips of keeper McLaughlin while Scott Flinders, at the other end, kept out Ritchie Jones with a firm one-handed stop.

Pools could have won it after 75 minutes but dominant defender Andrew Davies headed away Antony Sweeney's hooked effort.

Ricky Ravenhill then headed against the bar before the game went to penalties.
