Cross Johnson to go Maltese

Bristol CCity boss Gary Johnson looks set to pull the plug on Emad Meteb and push on with a million pounds move for Coventry's Michael Mifsud.

The Robins manager was said to be furious after watching his new £1.5million signing play for Al-Ahly after striking a deal with the Cairo club and will pull the plug on the deal if Mifsud puts pen to paper.

Coventry City's leading scorer last season travelled to Ashton gate yesterday for talks and a medical.

City last week unveiled Meteb as their record signing after agreeing a deal worth £1.5m with the Egyptian champions.

But the transfer hit the rocks when the 25-year-old disregarded Johnson's request not to make a farewell appearance for them in the Cairo derby.

The Ashton Gate boss contacted Coventry counterpart Chris Coleman to check on Mifsud's availability and make a formal offer when he saw Meteb play the full 90 minutes over the internet.
