Defender out until October

Bristol CBristol City defender Jamie McCombe will be out for six weeks after undergoing surgery on his fractured cheekbone this afternoon.

The centre-back was stretchered off after only 13 minutes of the 1-1 draw against Derby at Ashton Gate last weekend after a clash with Claude Davis.

McCombe, 25, has been waiting for the swelling to subside so he could undergo the operation.

City physio Nick Dawes told the club's official website: "Jamie will go in for surgery on Thursday afternoon. The scans have revealed the cheekbone is fractured in three places and he will definitely be out for up to six weeks."
