Johnson agrees five-year Robins deal

Bristol CGary Johnson has agreed a new five-year contract which will keep him at Championship outfit Bristol City until 2013.

The former Yeovil Town boss, who will celebrate his 53rd birthday on Sunday, has enjoyed a fairly successful three years at Ashton Gate after guiding the Robins to the Championship in his second season. Johnson then took the club to the Championship play-off final last season, where they lost out on a place in the Premier League to Hull City.

On signing his deal, Johnson heaped praise on the City chairman Steve Lansdown for the backing he has given him so far.

He told the club's official website: "I am very happy to have signed this new deal.

"The chairman mentioned it to me in the close season and gave me something think about. He told me about his own ambitions and his ambitions for the football club and that he would like me to be a part of that.

"I was very excited at the time and it's been agreed. I'm honoured that the chairman has chosen me as the manager to see him through the next five years because he is a very ambitious chairman, and the club will be going places in the next five years."
