Johnson on winger's future

Bristol CGary Johnson insists Scott Murray still has a future at Bristol City despite allowing the player to join Cheltenham on loan.

The winger was the first signing made by new Cheltenham boss Martin Allen following his appointment on Monday, a switch which Murray admitted he was 'surprised' by.

But Johnson has been quick to point out that it doesn't signal the end for Murray at Ashton Gate.

The manager stated: "We wouldn't have given Scott a new contract if we thought it was the end for him. We love him and the way he plays."

Johnson added: "He showed in the reserves the other day he's still got that character and the ability to score goals, but the Championship is a bit different to the reserve league.

"We get the option to recall him next month and if he's challenging when he comes back then he'll be ready.

"It's a positive for everyone all around. I've already said to Scotty, I want him at this football club for as long as I am here."
