Sean O'Driscoll has challenged basement dwellers Bristol City to build on their first npower Championship win under his guidance.

The Robins defeated Ipswich 2-1 thanks to Jon Stead's last-minute winner.

O'Driscoll said: "We had to weather a storm, but I thought the players showed tremendous character to stay in the game.

"It was so important to get a home win on the board after the lads had been beaten 4-0 by Leicester last time they played here.

"I missed the equalising goal because I was shouting at my midfield players to take up better positions following a tactical change at half time.

"It's one step in the right direction, but we know we have to do even better to survive in the Championship."

Stead broke on to a header from fellow substitute Steve Davies and took his time before beating Scott Loach with a low left-foot shot from 10 yards.

Ipswich had been the better side and deserved to lead when Danny Murphy shot past Tom Heaton after forcing his way beyond Liam Fontaine on the half hour.

But Davies blasted an unstoppable left-foot equaliser from a narrow angle after he was picked out by Paul Anderson's 47th-minute pass.

And Ipswich were left to rue one of the misses of the season by Lee Martin on 37 minutes when he fired wide of an unguarded net from six yards.
