Robins set to scrap Egyptian swoop

Bristol CBristol City could scrap their £1.5million swoop for Egyptian striker Emad Meteb after he played for his former club Al Ahly on Sunday.

The 25-year-old had signed a three-year contract with the Robins last week in a club-record switch. But his decision to play for his old club in the Cairo derby against Zamalek at the weekend has angered City, who are now threatening to pull the plug on the entire deal.

Meteb's agent Nader Shawki has quickly spoken out to claim the player thought he had City's blessing to play in the game and is hoping it will not scupper the transfer.

"A misunderstanding made us believe that Emad's participation in the game was fully acknowledged by Bristol," Shawki told Egyptian football website FilGoal.

"Bristol's representative, Mohamed Hamid, informed us that there would be no problem if Meteb played his last game.

"But then we were surprised to learn the frustration of Bristol officials to the extent that the transfer could be cancelled.

"I have already spoken to (City manager) Gary Johnson and I hope we can resolve the problem because Emad didn't mean any disrespect to the English club."
