Burnley striker Charlie Austin has been named as the npower Championship's Player of the Month for October.

Austin scooped the award courtesy of his phenomenal scoring form as he notched seven goals in the month to complete a club-record run of netting in eight consecutive matches.

"It's nice to be noticed for your own award and I'm chuffed to bits to get it," said the 23-year-old. "But I've said many times before, if it wasn't for my team-mates I wouldn't be in the position to win this award.

"I'm there in the team to score goals but Tripps (Kieran Trippier) has set up six or seven of my goals and if it wasn't for him and the rest of the lads I wouldn't be getting the opportunities that I have been."

Austin's goals to complete his hat-trick against Sheffield Wednesday and winner in the 1-0 triumph over Blackpool, with the Clarets under caretaker manager Terry Pashley, stood as his favourites of the month.

"My last one against Sheffield Wednesday because I don't score many from outside the box and it was a decent strike," he added. "And the header against Blackpool because it was the first game for Pash, Eddie Howe had left, and it was a big game for us. We could have gone under but we didn't - we stuck at it, got the goal and defended great as a team."
