Cardiff boss Malky Mackay is set to move for Tottenham centre half Steven Caulker and is preparing an £8m offer for the player.
Spurs are in no rush to sell the England international and have previously indicated they want around £12m for the player but Cardiff are hoping that £8m, with a substantial amount of add ons, will be enough to prise him away.
Mackay has been after a new centre-back and had moved for Espanyol defender Hector Moreno, also a target for Swansea, but their offer was turned down so he may now return for Caulker.
The 21-year-old is said to be concerned that he will not get the game time he wants at White Hart Lane with Andre Villas-Boas linked with a move for both Vlad Chiriches from Steaua Bucharest and Tiago Ilori from Sporting Lisbon.
