Cardiff are waiting for Birmingham to come back to them with an improved offer for the services of central defender Roger Johnson.
The Blues are said to have made an offer of £5m for the player but they wanted to spread the payments over a long period and Cardiff want the money up front if they are to do a deal so they can then go out and find a replacement.
Johnson looks to be on his way if Birmingham come up with the right offer but Bluebirds chairman Peter Ridsdale told the Western Mail: "Nothing has been agreed.
"We said no to their offer and Roger Johnson remains a Cardiff City player."
