Cardiff have emerged as surprise candidates to land in-demand Benfica striker Oscar Cardozo this summer.
The Paraguay international is expected to leave the Portuguese club during the transfer window and has been linked with a switch to the Premier League.
Manchester City were believed to be interested as they look for a replacement for Carlos Tevez following his move to Juventus, but have yet to make an official bid.
Several other top-flight bosses are watching the situation closely and now Bluebirds manager Malky Mackay has admitted an unlikely swoop for Cardozo could be on the cards.
He has been quoted in Portuguese newspaper Record saying: "I know all about the attributes of Cardozo. I know exactly how he plays.
"I think he would suit our game and would be interesting for us."
